Northlane have shared new single ‘Clockwork’ amid the news that bassist Brendon Padjasek has parted ways with the band after two and a half years.

The frantic new song was written by frontman Marcus Bridge as an insight into the anxieties around returning to songwriting after a devastating 12 months.

“Clockwork reflects the pressures and anxieties I felt as we jumped back into writing after an uninspiring year,” explains Bridge. “I always want to push myself creatively but with life on hold and with no end in sight, I felt empty and lonely, running out of time as our self-imposed deadline approached.”

‘Clockwork’ also serves as the official theme song for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Oceanic Nationals esports League, which kicked off yesterday, and marks their first single with new label Believe.

Alongside the new single comes the announcement that Padjasek has departed from the band, citing the toll the band’s extensive pre-2020 touring schedule took on him.

“I spent all of last year realizing that though music is still my calling, touring is not. It may seem like the most amazing life and that it’s all easy, but from my experiences it takes a certain type of person to be able to happily live that life and forego the stress it brings, and I unfortunately am not that person,” Padjasek wrote in a statement on Instagram.

Padjasek – who replaced previous bassist Alex Milovic in 2018, and performed on much of the band’s 2019 album Alien – had nothing but kind words for his bandmates.

“You’ve helped me grow as a person and musician, taught me a lot about friendship, honesty, being open minded, teamwork, and most of all helped me realize the person I want to be and the life I want to lead,” he wrote.

“I love the four of you very much, your friendship means the world to me and I wish you luck in the rest of your career.”

The band look set to continue on as a four-piece for now – they’re set to headline the inaugural Full Tilt festival later this year in Queensland, Melbourne and Adelaide.
