Stream Stephen Malkmus’ Cover Of Can’s ‘Ege Bamyasi’ Album

Matador Records released Stephen Malkmus’ performance of the 1972 album, Ege Bamyasi, by highly influential German psychedelic rockers Can. The complete album performance was captured at the 2012 Week-End Fest in Cologne, Germany and is now available on streaming platforms.

Cologne-based band Von Spar backed Malkmus for the performance celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ege Bamyasi, which Matador (U.S.) and Domino (UK) put out as a limited vinyl release for Record Store Day and is now available to stream for the first time. A press release from Matador called Can’s Ege Bamyasi, “one of German psychedelic music’s defining documents.” Malkmus briefly talks about how influential the album was on him in a short documentary that also features performance footage of “Spoon” as well as words from late Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit.
