Legendary guitarist Frank Zappa was a huge fan of British rock band Black Sabbath. Zappa’s appreciation for Black Sabbath is the focus of “Music History #3,” a video recently released by the team behind JamBase partner Osiris Media’s The Tapes Archive podcast.
Frank Zappa picked Black Sabbath’s “Supernaut” as his favorite song of the moment in June 1975. “I like it because I think it’s prototypical of a certain musical style, and I think it’s well done,” the guitarist wrote of the track from Vol. 4. “Also, I like the guitar lick that’s being played in the background.”
Zappa went on to proclaim “Iron Man” as “the one now.” Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler said FZ’s appreciation for “Supernaut” helped critics “reconsider” the band. “Music History #3” shares Ozzy Osbourne‘s remembrances from a 1974 dinner that members of Black Sabbath attended with Frank.
