Widespread Panic paired covers of The Band’s “Ophelia” and “The Shape I’m In” as part of their second set at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on June 26, 2016. The group released pro-shot video featuring their tribute to The Band from the final night of their 2016 run at the iconic venue.
The Band originally issued “Ophelia” on their 1975 album Northern Lights – Southern Cross and “The Shape I’m In” on 1970’s Stage Fright. Robbie Robertson wrote both songs with Levon Helm handling lead vocals on “Ophelia” and Richard Manuel fronting “The Shape I’m In.”
“Ophelia” was debuted live by Widespread Panic on July 15, 1987 at New Deli in Greenville, North Carolina as per Everyday Companion. The sextet premiered their take on “The Shape I’m In” at Red Mile Racetrack in Lexington, Kentucky on September 17, 1995. “The Shape I’m In” has followed “Ophelia” 20 times out of 22 plays since April 6, 2011.
