Free Radio Releases ‘Outer Limits’ Single

62

Asheville-based hip-hop collective Free Radio unveiled “Outer Limits,” a single from their upcoming EARthWORMS album, as well as an accompanying video. EARthWORMS is set for release on May 27.

The band consists of longtime members Austn Haynes and Johnny Reynolds along with new additions Debrissa McKinney and Datrian Johnson. Haynes is the nephew of Gov’t Mule frontman Warren Haynes. Free Radio was formed in 2012 and now presents a new incarnation that is said to “represent a massive evolution of intention and sound.”

“I feel like the universe put us together,” noted Reynolds in a statement. “We all came from different walks of life and found ourselves in this time and space.” Haynes added, “When Datrian and Debrissa come together it’s just magical. One thing Johnny and I are not as skilled at is being vulnerable, and to have them bring that balance and soulfulness, to bring it back to a heartfelt level, I’ve been manifesting that for years.”

“Outer Limits” is described as “an inspirational anthem to push dreams forward while never forgetting where we come from.” The song features echoes of such legendary hip-hop acts as OutKast and Dead Prez with a new twist. Free Radio will celebrate the release of EARthWORMS with a socially distanced limited-capacity hometown show at Asheville’s The Orange Peel on May 29. Tickets are on sale now via eTix.

Free Radio tapped Saint Disruption‘s Jeff Firewalker Schmitt to direct the “Outer Limits” video. Check out the visual for the single below:
