As Greensky Bluegrass prepares to head out on a nationwide run of spring tour dates, the quintet has released Volume Two of its Leap Year Sessions compilation.
In the summer of 2020, Greensky Bluegrass—comprised of Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass), and Paul Hoffman (mandolin)—converged on St. Louis, MO’s empty The Pageant to record eight live shows over the course of a week. The band later rolled them out each Friday for fans as The Leap Year Sessions.
Following the release The Leap Year Sessions: Volume One, Volume Two features remastered highlights from the third and fourth episodes of The Leap Year Sessions.
Dave Bruzza previewed Volume Two with the release of its live cover of John Prine‘s “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness” ahead of the collection’s release. As Bruzza explained of the performance, “John Prine’s music has always inspired us. We wanted to do some different covers during these shows, and since he passed away in April we thought this would be a nice tribute to him and his music. I originally thought we should play ‘Souvenirs,’ but this one was a better fit for us to play as a band. It also happens to be one of my brother’s favorite songs.”
Greensky Bluegrass will hit the road for a run of socially distant performances this spring including stops in New Haven, CT, Frederick, MD, Lawrenceville, GA, North Plains, OR, and more. Scroll down to check out a full list of upcoming dates. For more info, head to the Greensky Bluegrass website.
