John Hiatt and Jerry Douglas Band shared the single “Long Black Electric Cadillac” set to land on the celebrated singer-songwriter and dobro ace’s upcoming collaborative album, Leftover Feelings, due out on May 21 through New West Records. Hiatt will also head out on the road with the Jerry Douglas Band for a North American Tour.
Hiatt and Douglas announced Leftover Feelings in March and shared the single “Mississippi Phone Booth.” The duo now follows with “Long Black Electric Cadilac,” which arrived with an accompanying music video premiered by CMT.
Directed by Lagan Sebert and Ted Roach, the video for “Long Black Electric Cadillac” sees the duo taking a spin on the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge near Nashville in a greener version of the classic car. But, as Douglas told CMT, the filming took place on a beautiful, but brisk, spring day.
“The sky was clear blue but it was 40 degrees,” Douglas remembered. “We put the top down, set the heat on 80 and enjoyed the scenery.”
“Hard to beat riding around in a long black Cadillac. Electric or otherwise,” Hiatt added. “It felt great seeing that big black convertible beauty gleaming in the early April Tennessee sun!”
When asked about what fans can take away from the video, Hiatt showcased some of his characteristic wit. “My message is, take your road trips seriously. But not yourself,” he said.
With their “Long Black Electric Cadilac” shoot in the rearview, Hiatt and Douglas will hit the road once again for a North American Tour that gets underway August 22 in Wisconsin but begins in earnest on September 16 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada at the Harvest Music Festival. The extensive tour will see Hiatt and the Jerry Douglas Band throughout the U.S. as well this fall. The excursion comes to a close on November 21 in Newberry, South Carolina.
