Ahead of tonight’s 10/26/10 Phish Dinner and a Movie stream, you can tune in to SiriusXM Phish Radio at 7:00 p.m. for an episode of Crowd Control hosted by Timothy Showalter (Strand of Oaks). The genre-blending songwriter/producer will also be premiering his cover of “Bug” from JamBase‘s forthcoming Cluster Flies, a covers tribute to Phish’s Farmhouse in honor of its 20th birthday.

In terms of current live Phish, the band has remained silent regarding the currently scheduled 2021 summer tour. Many bands will be hitting the road this summer, with a slew of large-scale tour announcements—featuring venues Phish is also set to play—having arrived in the last few weeks. Of course, various other tours and festivals have rescheduled to later in the year or pushed to 2022 during that same span. The Phish team is undoubtedly hard at work figuring out the best, safest move for the summer. Whether it’s this summer or sometime in the future, you can be sure that the plans are in the works as we speak, and you should know for sure by the next time we convene for Dinner and a Movie. Just a little more patience, friends…
Some Phish shows are beloved for their fearless jams. Others inspire the same affection for their quirky antics. Tonight’s 10/26/10 Phish Dinner and a Movie show falls into the latter category. Coming as the fall 2010 tour’s penultimate stop, the Tuesday night show in Manchester, NH often gets lost in the shuffle when looking back on this tour. From the Little Feat Halloween set and Led Zeppelin-infused 10/30 show in Atlantic City to the famous “Guyutica” show on 10/20. Despite the noteworthy shows that surrounded it, 10/26/10 still offered up enough Phish shenanigans to make it well worth revisiting more than ten (!!) years later.
The fun got started quickly with a cover of the J.J. Cale classic “After Midnight”, the first Phish rendition of the song since its momentous appearance at Big Cypress on New Year’s Eve 1999. The first “The Sloth” of tour kept the energy in the arena bubbling before making way for another tour debut, a searing “Alumni Blues” > “Letter To Jimmy Page” > “Alumni Blues”, with the final refrain featuring a direct homage to Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, and Jon Fishman‘s alma mater, Goddard College. Bob Marley‘s “Mellow Mood” made a rare appearance next, followed by the sole 2010 rendition of “Access Me”.
Raising the head once again, Phish broke out another Gamehendge beast—a rabid, somewhat extended “Llama”—before easing back on the throttle once again with another rarity, “All of These Dreams”. At just six minutes in length, you may be thinking, “Hey, I wish we had more ‘Llama’ in this show.” Sit tight champ, you’re gonna like how this goes.
A fantastic “The Curtain With” was up next, ebbing and flowing with unusual energy before swerving into the always-animated “Scent of a Mule”. “A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing”, followed by an energy-packed “It’s Ice” > “Walls of the Cave” tied a bow on the strong first set.
Dropping right back into mid-set form, the band returned for the second frame with a joyous “Possum”, expertly toying with dynamics as they built it to its customary white-light peaks. Next, Trey launched into “Light”, the Joy track that was quickly becoming a staple in Phish’s live rotation. While it hadn’t quite broken through as a truly great jam vehicle at this point (I’d mark that transition somewhere in late-summer 2012), this version shows shimmers of its potential.
Out of the smoldering embers of the “Light” jam, Trey lit the fuse on what would become a “Mike’s Groove” of outlandish proportions. Taking up the lion’s share of the second set, this edition of the long-running pairing was far from your standard “Mike’s Song” > “I Am Hydrogen” > “Weekapaug Groove” fare. Instead, the relatively straightforward “Mike’s” took a left turn into “Simple”. Ok, that’s not so unusual, but take it from there into “Makisupa Policeman”? Now we’re getting weird. Then, slip into the Phish debut of “Night Nurse” in honor of Gregory Isaacs, who had died the night before, and back into “Makisupa”? Yes… then, “The Wedge”? “Ghost”?? “Mango Song”?!! By the time Trey started peppering in “Weekapaug” teases on top of a “Mango Song” jam—eight songs into the “Mike’s Groove”—before landing in the closing coda, the band had exceeded its antics quotient for the evening many times over.
But wait, there’s more… taboot. With “Weekapaug” still barreling along the tracks, Trey nudged the train back into “Llama” territory for a quick, ecstatically received reprise to wrap the set. See, I told you there was more “Llama”.
A “Show of Life” encore closed down the affably eccentric performance, setting up a memorable Halloween run that weekend.

After Midnight was played for the first time since December 31, 1999 (206 shows). In Alumni, Trey added “from Goddard College” after the final “’cause I got a degree” lyric. Makisupa included the lyrics “Woke up this morning with a policeman at my door all I could do was shrug, and go back in my bedroom and smoke another nug.” This show featured the Phish debut of Night Nurse; original artist Gregory Isaacs passed away the night before, October 25, 2010. Weekapaug was heavily teased by Trey in Mango before the segue into Weekapaug itself. Weekapaug subsequently contained a Can’t You Hear Me Knocking jam, which featured lyrics from Ghost and Night Nurse, and was unfinished.
