Phish is the latest musical act to get in on the NFT (non-fungible token) craze, announcing today that they will be auctioning off the rights to a lifetime seat on the platform that frontman Trey Anastasio was memorably stuck on during the band’s 2019 New Year’s Eve performance at Madison Square Garden. The newly added seat, now permanently installed as an extension of the arena’s “Sky Bridge” section, will belong to the owner of the “Sky Platform” NFT for all future Phish shows at MSG.
The faulty platform debacle served as a fitting start for what would become one of the most disastrous years in history, and now the band wishes to turn the situation into a special opportunity for one lucky fan.
“The pandemic was the most devastating thing to happen to the music community as a whole,” Anastasio said in a statement. “As we begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel and revisit conversations about touring, we’ve been searching for a way to provide our fans with a special, one-of-a-kind experience.”
Bidding for the NFT and its accompanying lifetime seat on the “Sky Platform” opens tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET via Nifty Gateway. Bidding will start at $1,000. The owner of the 1-of-1 “Sky Platform” NFT—which features a GIF of Trey writing “Rescue Squad” on the aforementioned platform—will get lifetime access to watch any future Phish show from the very best seat in the house: directly above the stage. The groundbreaking NFT release will give one fan the opportunity to own an experience that is also a one-of-a-kind piece of Phish history.
