Alt-country luminaries Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson will both have roles in the next Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, according to reports shared earlier this week.

The forthcoming film from the acclaimed Hollywood director, which has yet to receive an official release date, will be an adaptation of David Grann‘s best-selling nonfiction book about the systematic murders of Oklahoma’s Osage tribal members in the 1920s, and the birth of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which investigated the cases.

According to local media outlet Osage News, Isbell will portray Bill Smith, the husband of an Osage woman who is killed, while Simpson will portray infamous rodeo champion and bootlegger Henry Grammer. The two musicians join a cast of actors that reportedly already includes Scorsese go-tos Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Isbell and his wife/bandmate Amanda Shires hosted a number of virtual and in-person performances throughout last year while much of the concert industry remained on hiatus. Sturgill Simpson also made the most out of a concert-less year in 2020 by releasing his graphic novel in collaboration with Z2 Comics in November, while also surprise releasing his Cuttin’ Grass – Vol. 2 (Cowboy Arms Sessions) compilation album in December.
