T-Pain Gives Amusing Apology For Ignoring Everyone’s Instagram DMs After Discovering “Requests” Folder [Watch]

68

Dear Celebrity, if T-Pain has ignored your Instagram DM in the past several years, he wants to offer you an apology.

In an amusing clip shared to TikTok on Wednesday by the hit-making singer, he runs down just a few of the hundreds of high-profile accounts that have, unbeknownst to him, attempted to contact him on Instagram in the last several years.

As he explains by way of computer-read captions while scrolling through the well of unread messages, “I was today years old when I found out about the request folder on Instagram that’s full of celebs trying to reach me. … I’ve been accidentally straight up ignoring all these people for like 2 years. I thought DM’s are supposed to just show up in the normal folder and you don’t have to go digging for all these. … I apologize to everybody on this list and the hundreds of others I couldn’t fit in this video. These are just the ones I haven’t checked and replied to. Yup……… I’m stupid. ”

With his sheepish face floating in the bottom corner of the frame and upbeat music a la It’s Always Sunny playing in the background, T-Pain watches as unread messages scroll past him from the likes of the NFL and NBABarstool SportsESPN, Genius, IGN, Nickelodeon, DJ Diplo, entrepreneur Adam Weitsman, pop star Fergie, actor Viola Davis, singer Keri Hilson, rapper YBN Nahmir, visual artist Bosslogic, pro athletes Karl-Anthony Towns and Nate Robinson, and many others.

Good thing Lil Dicky had T-Pain’s phone number and not just his Instagram, or we may never have gotten the “$ave Dat Money” music video.

T-Pain’s discovery of his message requests isn’t the first event in recent memory to spark an amusing public apology. In October of 2019, T-Pain canceled a run of upcoming tour dates (before it was cool) and took to Instagram for a humble mea culpa.

“Let me just start by saying that my team set up the tour in September,” the singer says at the start of the video. “If you’ve ever set up a monthlong tour before you’d know that that’s not enough time to set up a full tour. Some corners got cut. Production went missing, I wasn’t as hands-on with the planning and things as I should have been because I’ve been busy as hell.”

T-Pain went on to discuss how his team had advised him to lie about the reasonings for canceling the tour or to say he needed more time to put things together and whatnot, but T-Pain is simply too real to just bullsh*t his fans like that. “We f*cked up,” T-Pain concluded. “You can’t hold onto a mistake just ‘cus you spent a long time makin’ it. And that’s just the damn truth.”

…And just in case you were craving some T-Pain when you clicked this link, here he is sans auto-tune performing one of our favorite NPR Tiny Desk concerts of all time in 2014.
