The Disco Biscuits Kick Off The Caverns Run

71

The Disco Biscuits launched their two-night Above The Caves run at the Caverns Above The Ground Amphitheater in Pelham, Tennessee on Friday. The livetronica pioneers delivered an inverted “Shem-Rah Boo” for the first time in nearly 20 years during the first set.

Bassist Marc Brownstein addressed the audience to start the show, greeting the Tennessee crowd and noting that their tour schedule will see tDB in the Volunteer State a few times this year, including Bonnaroo on Labor Day Weekend. He then gave a little history of the opening song, “I Remember When,” saying that they debuted it without lyrics just down the road at the aforementioned Bonnaroo “20 years ago.” The vintage “Vassillios” followed which led into the inverted “Shem-Rah Boo.” tDB last did an inverted version of the classic on June 27, 2001 for a total of 985 shows, as per Phantasy Tour. Bisco also fit in a “Changes” jam in “Shem-Rah Boo” before segueing into “Cyclone.” The band continued to move pieces with a dyslexic version of “Save The Robots” ahead of set closer “42.”

Bisco picked back up where they left “Robots” to start the fully segued second set before getting into another inverted staple, “Morph Dusseldorf,” ahead of a return to “Save The Robots.” “Gangster” would follow before the band brought the first set to a close with “Digital Buddha,” which contained just the middle and ending sections. The band retook the stage with Brownstein once again addressing the audience with a little “cave” banter. The group then launched into a fitting and rollicking version of “M.E.M.P.H.I.S.” to bring the evening to a close.
