Jamgrass act The Infamous Stringdusters honor the “Father Of Bluegrass” with A Tribute To Bill Monroe, a studio album due out via Americana Vibes on May 28. The ‘Dusters previewed the seven-track LP by releasing their take on “My Sweet Blue Eyed Darling.”
Members of the group recorded A Tribute To Bill Monroe at their various home studios. “Once we realized that we were going to be grounded for a good while, we found the best way for us to stay connected musically (as a band spread out around the country) would be to record remotely, each guy from his own home studio,” explained guitarist Andy Falco. “The silver lining of it was recording albums we always talked about but didn’t have the time to actually do because of our busy touring schedule. The most important thing is for the art to continue, and we were very happy to be able to still create despite our different geographical locations.”
A Tribute To Bill Monroe contains such Monroe favorites as “Sitting Alone In The Moonlight,” “Toy Heart,” “Travelin Down This Lonesome Road” and “The Little Girl And The Dreadful Snake.” While The Infamous Stringdusters’ influences are diverse, there’s no doubting the huge role Bill and bluegrass play in the sound the band forged. The Infamous Stringdusters’ LP does not feature mandolin, Bill’s main instrument as they “followed a path to be innovators in the music created together,” explained Jeremy Garrett “along with exploiting the musical foundation we all share.”
“Bill Monroe was, as far as I can remember, the first bluegrass music I owned,” added Andy Hall. “I asked my uncle for a Bill Monroe CD box set and got it as a birthday present when I turned 18. The sound coming out of my speakers blew my mind. It sounded like ancient acoustic heavy metal.”
The quintet will donate a portion of proceeds from the album to the IBMA Foundation, an organization “known for helping individuals, organizations, foundations and corporations work together in supporting the future of bluegrass music.” Stream The Infamous Stringdusters’ “My Sweet Blue Eyed Darling” below:
