Bust out your platform heels, baby doll dresses and that limited edish Spice-themed Impulse body spray you’ve been saving since Year 2, because there are whispers a sequel to the beloved Spice Girls movie could be in the works.
The year was 1997 and girl power was a global pandemic, primed for Spiceworld: The Movie to dominate the zeitgeist further by raking in a tidy US $100 million at the box office.
Now, proving definitively that we should ~never give up on the good times~, we could be getting a second instalment in honour of the film’s 25th anniversary.
According to UK paper The Mirror, four out of the five Spice Girls (sans Victoria Beckham ofc) have “approached a renowned screenwriter about coming up with a story for a second film”.
“The girls have been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel,” a “source” reportedly slipped to the goss monger.
“They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward.
“It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.”
It follows talk that the gals were plotting an Aus tour for 2021, but said plans did not include Victoria Beckham, who’s obviously busy designing clothes and being stupidly wealthy.
Not sure how we’d feel about a Spice World sequel happening sans Posh and her little Gucci dress. Consider: it was the Spice Girls themselves who told us in the lyrics of their military-style Spice World chant that “We need five for the power of Spice”.
Still, if you want their future, forget their past?
