Goose Goes Acoustic & Debuts New Song At The Caverns

62

Goose began a two-night stand at The Cavens in Pelham, Tennessee with an above-ground show on Saturday. The band’s guitarists Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspach went acoustic for part of the first set while celebrating lighting designer Andrew Goedde’s birthday. The second set featured the debut of Goose’s original song, “Moby.”

The first set kicked off with a pairing of “Travelers” with “Doc Brown.” A standalone “Elizabeth” came next. Mitarotonda then sat down as he and Anspach brought out acoustics while Goedde, who was celebrating his 26th birthday, came on stage to showcase his impressive whistling skills on a cover of Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.” Goedde previously joined the band on the Simon cover at their Bingo Tour acoustic finale.

The acoustic segment continued with “Turned Clouds” and “Rosewood Heart,” the latter seeing Anspach on keyboards and eliciting cheers for its “the caverns below” lyrics. Mitarotonda was back to electric guitar for the segue into the set closer, “Jive I.”

The jive motif continued at the start of the second set with the back-to-back delivery of “Jive Lee” into “Jive II.” Goose followed the jive trilogy with “Wysteria Lane” and an improvised sequence embellished with Anspach’s spacey synth sounds. The intensifying jam led into the debut of the new Goose original song titled “Moby.” The instrumental appeared on Goose’s Ted Tapes 2021 compilation composed of recordings from the band’s rehearsals and soundchecks.

The second set drew to an end with “Empress Of Organos.” Goose came back to The Caverns stage to offer “726” as the evening’s encore. The band returns to The Caverns for another concert tonight. A livestream is available via LiveXLive.
