JoJo Hermann was the latest musician to take part in the Tunes for the Tongass series, where he performed a solo rendition of “Big Wooly Mammoth”. The Widespread Panic keyboardist’s submission came as the third in the ten-week series.
Launched on May 6th via Relix in a partnership with FANS and KEEN Footwear, Tunes for the Tongass aims to use music as a means of creating a lasting environmental impact. Culled from last month’s Rainforest Benefit Concert – Save The Tongass livestream, the video series will see performances filmed across the country at such famous venues as Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Alabama Theatre, and more. Tunes for the Tongass will also continue the mission of organizers and musicians alike to garner donations and attention in an effort to preserve Tongass National Forest in Juneau, AL and fight to repeal the open logging status in the forest.
Filmed at Todd Snider‘s Purple Building Studio in East Nashville, Hermann’s setup is a familiar site to those who tuned in for his weekly Shut Up And Play livestream series. Without the rest of the Widespread Panic operation, Hermann dials up his own playing as his piano fills the entirety of the room. Without the presence of a crowd, he also rolls right through “somebody throw me a fire” without a care in the world, knowing that a barrage of lighters will not rain down on him.
