Jazz guitarist Julian Lage announced 2021 North American tour dates. Lage also shared a performance video for “Familiar Flower” from his forthcoming album, Squint, due out on June 11 via Blue Note Records.

The first leg of Lage’s North American tour in support of Squint, his Blue Note debut, kicks off on September 25 in Los Angeles. Lage and his touring band — bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Kenny Wollesen will then head up the West Coast with stops in San Francisco, Portland and Seattle before heading east via engagements in Colorado ahead of a brief run through the Midwest. The first leg wraps up in Toronto on October 9. Lage picks back up in New York City on December 4 ahead of plays in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Atlanta and more. The second leg will conclude in Nashville on December 12.

In anticipation for the tour, Julian also shared a performance video for the Squint track “Familiar Flower.” The song and video feature Roeder as well as drummer Dave King. Lage dedicates the song to jazz master and saxophonist Charles Lloyd, whom he has worked with in recent years. Lage spoke about Lloyd’s influence in a press release.

“Charles somehow writes and arranges his songs so that the second the beat starts, you know it’s his tune,” Lage said. “His DNA is just embedded into the rhythm section. I still don’t know how he does it, but I tried to write that tune so that the tone is set before I even come in.”
