John Prine, who died last year from COVID-19, will be honored with a weeklong series of concerts and events in Nashville. The Prine Family announced the “You Got Gold: Celebrating The Life & Songs Of John Prine” concert series, which will be held at The Ryman Auditorium, CMA Theater at The Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and Basement East. The celebration commences on October 3 and concludes on October 10, what would have been Prine’s 74th birthday.
Each of the shows will feature surprise all-star lineups of performers, “celebrating the legendary singer, songwriter and performer’s inimitable life and songs.” The first two concerts will take place at The Ryman on October 6 and 7. Another concert will be held on October 8 at CMA Theater. The intimate Basement East will host a performance on October 9. Additional “You Got Gold” events are expected to be announced at a later date.
Proceeds from “You Got Gold: Celebrating The Life & Songs Of John Prine” will benefit the newly established Hello In There Foundation, the non-profit organization founded by The Prine Family in John’s memory. Beneficiaries of grants from the foundation this year include Nashville-based non-profits Room In The Inn and Thistle Farms.
Tickets to the four Nashville “You Got Gold” concerts go on sale on Friday, May 28. A pre-sale for tickets begins Wednesday, May 26. More information is available at www.YouGotGold.JohnPrine.com.
Prine’s record label Oh Boy Records confirmed the October 8 release of Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows Vol. 2. The second volume of Prine covers includes Sturgill Simpson’s cover of “Paradise” and Brandi Carlile’s version of “I Remember Everything.”
