Umphrey’s McGee wrapped up their Plan Bee Spring Tour in Pontiac, Michigan near Detroit on Saturday. The show saw UM debuting the Grand Funk Railroad classic “We’re An American Band” during the encore.
Umphrey’s McGee — guitarists Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger, bassist Ryan Stasik, drummer Kris Myers, keyboardist Joel Cummins and percussionist Andy Farag — kicked off the show with “Slacker.” Bayliss led the band through the first verses before UM dropped into a jam with Stasik slapping some bass and Cinninger reeling of some double stops as the band really locked into the pocket with a delightfully dark groove. UM built up the jam to a crescendo before heading back into the final verses and then into “1348.” “Women Wine and Song” in turn led into “End Of The Road” ahead of a stand-alone “Domino Theory.” Next “Prowler” commenced a set closing segment that also included “Whistle Kids” and “Andy’s Last Beer” to conclude the first frame.
A massive bust out of the rarity “Leave Me In Las Vegas” would get the second set underway. UM had not played the song since July 5, 2013 in Minneapolis for a gap of 658 shows, as per All Things Umphrey’s. The Pontiac play marked just the 7th time Umphrey’s performed the song since debuting it in 2009. “Leave Me In Las Vegas” is also the lead single from UM’s recently announced album You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall & Left A Raging Bull. The second set opener then segued into “All In Time” and “Push The Pig.” “Room To Breathe” came next ahead of a pairing of “It Doesn’t Matter” and “Remind Me.” Umphrey’s returned to “All In Time” to finish up the second set. Then came the debut of Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band” to begin the encore which then headed into “Pay The Snucka” to bring the concert to a close.
