Charleston, South Carolina-based band Doom Flamingo shared their new EP, Flamingo, today. The band described the six-track collection as the “dance floor ready alter ego to their 2020 Doom EP and also confirmed a series of upcoming tour dates.

Doom Flamingo features vocalist Kanika Moore, Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik, guitarist Thomas Kenney, keyboardist Ross Bogan, drummer Stu White and saxophonist Mike Quinn. The group started work on Flamingo before the pandemic began with co-producer Matt Zutell at his Coast Records facility in Charleston. Included within are five originals and a cover of Tina Turner’s “The Best.”

One of the originals, “Michelle,” was penned in honor of Michelle Obama. “‘Michelle’ is a song dedicated to the women that exhibit love, intelligence, and charisma because it feels good to deposit positive energy and be fed with the same,” said Moore. “I’m inspired by Michelle Obama.”

Next up for Doom Flamingo is a show at Windjammer in Isle Of Palms, South Carolina on Thursday before an appearance at The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Saturday. The sextet then follows a set at the Summer Camp Music Festival in August with a batch of dates in September.

Doom Flamingo heads to Texas for shows in Austin on September 9, Houston on September 10 and Dallas on September 11. An appearance at Resonance in Masontown, West Virginia follows on September 16 along with concerts in Indianapolis on September 18 and Port Chester (New York) on October 9. Additionally, the band will perform at this year’s Holidaze destination event in December.
