Singer-songwriter and Aussie queer icon Georgia Flipo – aka G Flip – has come out as non-binary in a post on their social media accounts. The musician shared their identity on Sunday (13th June), saying they will use they/them pronouns going forward, alongside a series of photos from their childhood.
“I’m non-binary mother fuckers! Big props to those who have been educating and advocating for the enby community the last few years. Looking into what it means to be non-binary had me realise that that’s who I’ve been my entire life,” Flipo wrote.
“I’m still the exact same person, non-binary is just the best way to explain who I am and how I’ve always felt, like a gender smoothie.” In extremely G Flip fashion, they ended the post with a shout-out to their favourite team, the Collingwood Pies.
The post has been met with an outpouring of support from Australia’s music industry, with fellow artists Jack River, Gretta Ray, Alex the Astronaut, Mallrat and more all sharing their well wishes for Flipo. See their Instagram post below.
Flipo’s debut album About Us arrived back in 2019. They’ve released a string of singles since then, such as ‘Hyperfine’ and the “LGBTQIA+ love anthem” ‘You & I’ last year. Back in January they teamed up with mxmtoon for the single ‘Queen’, and last month released ‘Not Even in Vegas’, a collaboration with Thomas Headon.
