Goose Debuts ‘The Labyrinth’ In New Hampshire

97

Goose kicked off their weekend with a concert at Northlands in Swanzey, New Hampshire on Friday. The Connecticut-based quintet debuted “The Labyrinth” to kick off the second set.

Goose — guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, drummer Ben Atkind, bassist Trevor Weekz and percussionist Jeffrey Arevalo — began the show with “Elizabeth” ahead of “Arcadia,” which saw the band getting into the first improvisation of the evening before finishing off the Moon Cabin cut. “Drive” and “Lead The Way” followed before the first cover of the concert, Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” which also saw the band getting exploratory before heading into “Wysteria Lane” and finally “Loose Ends” to wrap up the first frame.

Goose then unveiled “The Labyrinth” to get the second set underway. The aptly named instrumental closer to the band’s recently released album Shenanigans Nite Club featured winding guitar lines from Rick in an atmospheric intro that floated on Anspach’s piano. But the song gained momentum as the band cycled through-composed sections and escalated into a frenetic crescendo. The new tune would give way to the band’s choice cover of Pat Benatar’s “Love Is A Battlefield,” which Goose debuted at their 2020 Goosemas concert from Rockefeller Center in New York City. “White Lights” followed ahead of a “Jive II” and “Creatures” section. Goose would begin “Slow Ready” — a slowed-down version of Shenanigans single “So Ready” — but the song was cut short due to time constraints.
