Listen To Mike & Tessa Gordon Guest With Max Creek In Burlington

64

Max Creek performed at 405 Backside in Burlington, Vermont on June 18. Phish bassist Mike Gordon and his daughter Tessa Gordon joined Max Creek for a song from the Grateful Dead repertoire and more.

Max Creek — guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer Bill Carbone, bassist John Rider, keyboardist Mark Mercier and percussionist Jamemurrel Stanley — kicked off the show with a pairing of “In Harmony” and “Columbus Stockade Blues” followed by “Wild Side.” Murawski then welcomed his longtime collaborator Mike Gordon — Scott plays guitar in Mike’s solo band — and Tessa Gordon for Bill Browning’s “Dark Hollow,” also covered by the Grateful Dead. Mike played acoustic guitar as Tessa took lead on the song. Tessa also added some nice high harmonies alongside her dad on the chorus. The father-daughter duo would also duet on the traditional ballad “Bury Me Beneath The Weeping Willow.”

Max Creek, who is celebrating 50 years as a band this year, would continue their set which included favorites from their catalog like “Emotional Railroad” as well as well-jammed versions of “Blood Red Roses” and “Emerald Eyes.” The quintet also harkened back to the Grateful Dead with an “Other One” tease during “Outside Of Home.” Max Creek kicked off a seamless set-closing segment with “Peaceful Warrior” which headed into a cover of Paul Simon’s “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes.” “Something Is Forming” brought the set to a close. Max Creek would encore with “Henry” into “Back Porch Boogie Blues.”
