Tenth Mountain Division Shares ‘Highland Morning’ Single Featuring Elliott Peck: Exclusive Premiere

99

Next Friday, June 18, Colorado’s Tenth Mountain Division will independently release their third studio album, Butte La Rose. JamBase is pleased to premiere the Butte La Rose track “Highland Morning,” which features Elliott Peck of Midnight North and The Terrapin Family Band on backing vocals.

The quintet assembled at Denver’s Silo Sound Studio to record the 10-track follow-up to 2018’s In Good Company. Railroad Earth‘s Tim Carbone served as producer with Todd Divel engineering.

The group started work on Butte La Rose early last year and completed the LP after the pandemic hit by putting together a COVID-safe plan. Percussionist Will Trask added to every track on Butte La Rose. Other guests besides Peck and Carbone include a horn section consisting of trombonist Scott Flynn (ODESZA), trumpeter Gabe Mervine (Lettuce, Karl Denson, The Colorado Symphony) and saxophonist Nathan Peoples (Coral Creek).

Tenth Mountain Division’s Andrew Cooney shared the following regarding “Highland Morning”:

The song ‘Highland Morning’ has lived quite a life. I started it in college about a girl I took a liking too that also happened to be seeing one of my old roommates (things you just can’t have), but never finished it. After a couple transformations of the song, and a couple cross country trips/moves, the old lyrics and melody found its way back to me one morning in Highlands, North Carolina while on tour with TMD. We ended up playing a snippet of the song as a ‘hidden track’ on our last album, and then developing it into a whole song for Butte La Rose, the second verse being written 10 years after the first. What started as an acoustic diddy turned into an almost island bonfire synthy pop song, especially once Tim made the call to Elliot Peck from Midnight North. Her vocals were the perfect icing on the cake.
