Twiddle delivered a show at Salvage Station in Ashville, North Carolina on Saturday. The quartet would welcome guitarist Spiro Nicolopoulos on a Grateful Dead classic and more to close out the second set.
Keyboardists Ryan Dempsey got the show underway with the piano intro “Enter” before the band headed into the song’s companion on Plump Chapter 2, “Orlando’s.” Twiddle delivered a well-jammed version of the song stretching to 20 minutes. The quartet then offered up Plump Chapter 1’s “Polluted Beauty.” Guitarist Mihali Savoulidis led the band through the reggae-tinged verses before reeling off a solo ahead of a cool down which headed into a trancey, synth-laced funk jam. The band explored some peaks and valleys before blasting off for the song’s conclusion. The classic “Zazu’s Flight” followed ahead of set closer, “The Frends Theme.”
Twiddle kicked off the second set with another classic, “Jamflowman,” which saw a bass solo from Zdenek Gubb before the quartet built up the jam and brought it back down into the blissy guitar and piano section. Mihali then got back into the verses before the quartet cycled through another jam section and really escalated the song with a fiery “Layla” tease. A pairing of “Collective Pulse” and new song “My Truck” followed ahead of “Amydst The Myst.”
Twiddle then welcomed Nicolopoulos on guitar for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Casey Jones.” After the train tune’s iconic opening riff, Nicolopoulos delivered some tasty double stops tracing the melody before Mihali got into the verses. Spiro also reeled off a soaring solo on the song’s coda. Nicolopoulos would stay on to help the band close the second set with “Lost In The Cold.” After drummer Brook Joran thanked the Ashville audience, Twiddle would go it alone on an encore of “Slippin’ In The Kitchen,” complete with Dempsey donning a robot mask.
