All-Star Jerry Garcia Tribute Shows In New Haven, CT & Denver, CO Highlight 2021 Daze Between Celebration

101

Rex Foundation, in partnership with The Jerry Garcia Family, has big plans for this year’s Daze Between celebration. What began in 2020 as a digital celebration of the life and work of Jerry Garcia has now ballooned into a nationwide hybrid-event encompassing nine days of Grateful Dead-themed activities.

This year’s Daze Between will be highlighted by all-star celebrations of Jerry Garcia on opposite sides of the country at Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, CT and Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO, respectively [get tickets for Westville here and Cervantes’ here]

The pinnacle of Daze Between comes on August 8th at Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, CT. The full-day celebration will host a double dose of Warren Haynes and Grace Potter, who will each perform together as well separately. No Sunday would be complete without a full service of the Jerry Garcia Band, set to be delivered by Lettuce in a rare running of the future-funk outfit’s acclaimed “Lettuce Celebrates JGB” set. Keller Williams will also translate the Dead’s music into a bluegrass format with one of his patented Grateful Grass performances. All of this comes in addition to more special guests that have yet to be announced.

On what would have marked Jerry’s 79th birthday on August 1st, his devotees and even a former colleague will gather at Cervantes’ in Denver to fire the starting gun for Daze Between. The lineup for this all-star tribute features Bill Nershi (The String Cheese Incident), Peter Rowan (Old & In The Way), Ross James (Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band), Adam MacDougall (Circles Around The Sun), Mark Levy (Circles Around The Sun), Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon), Garrett Sayers (The Motet), and Elliot Peck (Midnight North). The stylistic mix of bluegrass artists like Rowan, Nershi, and Thorn with the new age funk of Sayers and the instrumental prowess of MacDougall and Levy, the Cervantes’ Daze Between will surely make for a unique musical stew.

Tickets for the Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom and Westville Music Bowl Daze Between shows are on sale now. For a full lineup of sponsored events, visit the Daze Between website. Those who can’t make it to any of the Daze Between shows can join in virtually with streaming options available through Mandolin, FANS, and Nugs all week long. The Westville and Cervantes’ concerts highlight a weeks-long Daze Between lineup encompassing more than 30 digital and in-person events across the country. Ranging from all-star concerts to art showings to even Major League Baseball games, the 2021 Daze Between celebration promises to carry the spirit and message of Jerry Garcia to an even further audience than last year.

In that vein, this year Rex Foundation and The Jerry Garcia Family are encouraging Heads everywhere to reach out into their communities with the new Daze of Service component of Daze Between. Fans around the country are encouraged to give a few hours of their time in service to others. Rex Foundation and The Jerry Garcia Family have hand-picked a selection of foundations across the U.S. including Food Runners, Soles4Souls, Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange, Share Food Program, Open Hand Atlanta, Cradles to Crayons Boston, Food for Lane County, Gather New Haven, Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, Capital Area Food Bank, and more.

Rex Foundation is also working toward its goal of providing $10,000,000 in grants since the non-profit was launched by the Dead in 1983. Since then, the organization has supported grassroots efforts in the arts, sciences, education, environment, indigenous culture, and social justice. Donations can be made by texting ‘DAZE’ to (202) 858-1233 or through the Daze Between website.
