Amyl and the Sniffers Share New Single ‘Security’ and Announce Livestream Event

Amyl and the Sniffers have shared ‘Security’, the second single to be lifted from their forthcoming album Comfort to Me. It’s a characteristically raucous cut with a wildly hooky refrain that arrives alongside a video directed by frequent King Gizz collaborator John Angus Stewart that sees frontwoman Amy Taylor dancing up a storm in a graveyard.

Coinciding with the release, the band have also announced a livestream performance for Tuesday, 5th October that will see them playing Comfort to Me in full, in one take, “on a slab of concrete in a suburban wasteland” in their local Melbourne. Tickets are available here.

Amyl and the Sniffers announced Comfort to Me, their second album, earlier this month alongside lead single ‘Guided by Angels’. The Nick Launay-produced follow-up to their self-titled 2019 debut is set to arrive Friday, 10th September.

When announcing the album earlier this month, Taylor shared a lengthy statement describing the state of the world, herself and her process as she was writing the songs that would make up Comfort to Me – half of the lyrics written during the Australian bushfire season, and the other half during lockdown.

“I had all this energy inside of me and nowhere to put it, because I couldn’t perform, and it had a hectic effect on my brain. My brain evolved and warped and my way of thinking about the world completely changed,” she said. “Having to deal with a lot of authority during 2020 and realising my lack of power made me feel both more self destructive and more self disciplined, more nihilistic and more depressed and more resentful, which ultimately fuelled me with a kind of relentless motivation.

“I became a temporary monster. I partied more, but I also exercised heaps, read books and ate veggies. I was like an egg going into boiling water when this started, gooey and weak but with a hard surface. I came out even harder. I’m still soft on the inside, but in a different way.”
