Angel Olsen Shares ‘Safety Dance’ Cover

86

Angel Olsen shared her cover of “Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats. The track appears on her upcoming ‘80s covers EP, Aisles.

The five-song EP will come out digitally on August 20 and physically on September 24, through Olsen’s new Jagjaguwar imprint somethingscosmic. Olsen worked on the release with co-producer and engineer Adam McDaniel during sessions held in the winter of 2020 at Asheville’s Drop of Sun Studios. Other covers include Laura Branigan’s “Gloria,” Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without A Face,” Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s “If You Leave” and Alphaville’s “Forever Young.”

“I felt this song could be reinterpreted to be about the time of quarantine and the fear of being around anyone or having too much fun,” Olsen said of the Men Without Hats cover. “It made me wonder, is it safe to laugh or dance or be free of it all for just a moment?”
