Black Pumas released a live performance video featuring a cover of Rodriguez’s “Sugar Man.” The band led by Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada initially issued “Sugar Man” in January as part of their first ever Spotify Singles recordings.

Rodriguez wrote and recorded “Sugar Man” back in 1969. The song is featured on the Detroit native’s debut studio album, 1970’s Cold Fact. “Sugar Man” is Rodriguez’s signature tune with a 2012 documentary about the singer-songwriter entitled Searching For Sugar Man.

“‘Sugar Man’ is one of those songs we’ve both been attracted to for years, from Rodriguez’s songwriting and performance to the production of Dennis Coffey, it’s inspired us in more ways than one and is one of those true timeless pieces of music,” said Adrian Quesada when Black Pumas’ Spotify Singles came out. “It was a total blast to dissect it and reinterpret in our voice.”
