The Grateful Dead and Rhino forged a partnership with The Coda Collection to host a trio of live concert films on the music-centric Amazon Prime Video channel. Available today for streaming exclusively on the channel is video featuring the legendary band’s July 2, 1989 show at Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
On September 8, The Grateful Dead’s performance at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. from July 12, 1989 will be released on The Coda Collection. Then, on September 29, footage of the group’s June 17, 1991 concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey comes to the channel. Additional programming will be announced in the months to come.
The Grateful Dead’s Live In Foxboro 7/2/89 concert film features the lineup of guitarists Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh, keyboardist Brent Mydland and drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. Sullivan Stadium hosted the group’s summer tour opener with highlights including a rare show-opening “Playing In The Band,” tender “Friend Of The Devil,” emotion-laden “He’s Gone” featuring a bit of “Smokestack Lightning” and a stellar “Dear Mr. Fantasy” that gave way to the “Hey Jude” coda.
The Coda Collection was launched on Amazon Prime Video in February. For $4.99 a month subscribers can stream a curated collection featuring hundreds of hours worth of music documentaries, concerts films and episodic series.
