Dinosaur Jr Performs ‘Tiny Desk (Home) Concert’

62

Dinosaur Jr. delivered a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert for NPR Music. The Massachusetts-based alt-rock trio performed songs from their 2021 album, Sweep It Into Space, along with other classics from their extensive catalog.

Dinosaur Jr. — guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph — filmed their Tiny Desk (Home) Concert from an empty Shea Theater in Turners Falls, Massachusetts. The band decked the space with totems and knick-knacks, along with a copy of Sweep It Into Space, in homage to Bob Boilen’s famed desk at NPR, complete with an actual tiny desk.

With the appropriate atmosphere achieved, Mascis sang lead on Sweep It Into Space’s “I Ain’t” while Barlow helmed one of his contributions to the album, “Garden.” The band then performed “Feel The Pain” from their 1994 LP, Without a Sound, ahead of a return to Sweep It Into Space with “I Ran Away.” Dinosaur Jr. concluded their Tiny Desk with “Freak Scene” from 1988’s Bug.
