Greensky Bluegrass Covers Bobby Hebb’s ‘Sunny’ In California

Greensky Bluegrass debuted a cover of “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb at their show on Friday, July 30. The performance took place at Roaring Camp Meadows in Felton, California.

Mandolin player Paul Hoffman sang lead on “Sunny,” which came after the show-opening “Past My Prime.” Hebb’s now-classic version of “Sunny” was released in 1966. GSBG followed the debut with Cris Jacobs’ “Bone Digger” and later in the set covered “How Mountain Girls Can Love” and Bob Marley’s “Stop That Train.” Set one also saw originals “Room Without a Roof,” “While Waiting,” “Kerosene” and the rarely played “Stress Dreams.”

Set two kicked off with GSBG staples “Do It Alone,” “In Control,” “A Letter to Seymour,” “Who Is Frederico?” and “Run or Die.” They then turned to John Hartford’s “I’m Still Here,” followed by “Reverend” and “Fa Sho, Uh Huh.” The set ended with “Broke Mountain Breakdown” segueing into Pink Floyd’s “Time” and “Breathe Reprise” before going back into “Broke Mountain Breakdown.” Friday’s encore consisted of a combo of “The Four” and “Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox.”
