SOJA continues to preview Beauty In The Silence, their first new full-length studio album in four years, with the single “The Day You Came.” The track comes in collaboration with members of UB40 and Rebelution.

Beauty In The Silence arrives through ATO Records on September 24. The guest-filled follow-up to 2017’s Poetry In Motion also includes appearances from Collie Buddz, J Boog, Stick Figure, Dirty Heads, Mihali, Common Kings and others.

SOJA frontman Jacob Hemphill discussed “The Day You Came” with American Songwriter, the outlet that premiered the track. Read Hemphill’s thoughts on the LP’s third single:

“I’m weird. When I write love songs, I normally write them from her perspective. In my experience, I’m the one who kind of leaves, normally. As I think about the song, I realized that she was kind of leaving, too. And it doesn’t really matter who leaves.

“I read an article one time and it said there are two kinds of great loves you will experience in your life. One is a partner or a friend. That’s someone you trust, someone who is truly your friend, someone you don’t scream at, or say mean things to, or someone who you build things with. Then, the article referenced another kind of relationship that was called a wrecking ball. What a wrecking ball does is it breaks down all this old crap in your life, and it ignites something in you. Both these relationships are necessary, but the friendships last.”

“The Day You Came” includes vocals from Rebelution’s Eric Rachmany and Ali Campbell of UB40. “Me and my dad used to sing ‘Impossible Love’ by UB40 all the time—we’d sing together at his piano, we’d sing it when we were driving somewhere,” added Hemphill. “Before I even knew Bob Marley, UB40 were my entry point into loving reggae.”
