TAUK continues to gear up for the release of their Chaos Companion album by dropping the new single “Make Your Move.” Chaos Companion is due out on September 24.
Recorded over the past year at a new studio on their native Long Island, TAUK’s follow-up to 2018’s multi-volume Shapeshifter is an instrumental LP featuring nine tracks. The prog-jam quartet previously released Chaos Companion singles “Moon Dub” and “The Let Out.”
“‘Make Your Move’ started from a keyboard loop that A.C. [Carter] had made years ago. Part of the writing process during quarantine included going back through tons of unfinished ideas,” TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert told Prog Sphere. “Voice memos, old recordings from rehearsals, composed files in Sibelius. All of these forgotten pieces have been sitting around waiting their turn.”
“I love the balance we found on this one of natural instruments mixed with loops and electronic elements,” Jalbert noted to Prog Sphere, who premiered the track. “Greg Ellis added the perfect percussion layers that really drove everything home, and Max ZT was able to bring new life into the original loop by adding some amazing hammered dulcimer.”
