The Black Crowes Perform ‘Descending’ & ‘Good Morning Captain’ For 1st Time Since 2013

The Black Crowes played “Descending” and “Good Morning Captain” for the first time since 2013 on Sunday. The performances came during the renowned rockers’ stop at American Family Insurance Amphitheater in Milwaukee on their tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1990 debut album Shake Your Money Maker.

The tour has seen The Black Crowes kicking off the show with a complete performance of Shake Your Money Maker followed by songs from throughout the band’s catalog and the Milwaukee show followed the same format. The current lineup of the band features frontman Chris Robinson, guitarist Rich Robinson and longtime bassist Sven Pipien along with touring members guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, keyboardist Joel Robinow, drummer Brian Griffin and backing vocalists Mackenzie Adams and Leslie Grant. The group headed through Money Maker’s 10-tracks to get the show underway ahead of “No Speak No Slave” and “Kickin’ My Heart Around.”

The Black Crowes then delivered the aforementioned “Good Morning Captain” and “Descending” for the first time since 2013 when the band conducted their last extended tour late that year. “Good Morning Captain” appears on The Crowes’ 2009 album Before The Frost…Until The Freeze, which marks their most recent studio album of original material. “Descending” closes out the landmark 1994 album Amorica. The Black Crowes continued the set with Amorica’s “Wiser Time,” followed by “Thorn In Pride, “ Sting Me” and set closer “Remedy.” As they did at a recent show in Pennsylvania, The Black Crowes encored with The Velvet Underground classic “Rock & Roll.”
