57

Blackberry Smoke recently teamed up with The Allman Betts Band to honor the late Dusty Hill by performing a cover of ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” Pro-shot video featuring the tribute to Hill has been shared on Blackberry Smoke’s YouTube channel.

ZZ Top vocalist and bassist Dusty Hill died on July 28. Blackberry Smoke and The Allman Betts Band covered “Jesus Just Lef Chicago” in tribute to Hill during stops of their Spirit Of The South tour in Bridgeport, Connecticut on July 30 and Huber Heights, Ohio on August 1 as per Setlist.FM.

The Spirit Of The South tour also features The Wild Feathers and co-founding Allman Brothers Band drummer Jaimoe. Each night ends with the acts collaborating on a series of covers.

Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr handled lead vocals on “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” Starr played the tune with the actual 1950 Fender Broadcaster guitar that Billy Gibbons used to record the original for ZZ Top’s Tres Hombres album. Charlie, Devon Allman and Duane Betts each took solos during the collaborative “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”
