Watch Wilco Play Backstage Set After Kansas City Show Cancelation

72

While Thursday’s Wilco concert at Grinders KC in Kansas City was canceled due to poor weather conditions, the band performed a set backstage at the venue from their dressing room. Wilco aired their eight-song set, which was played as members of tourmates Sleater-Kinney looked on and added backing vocals, via Instagram.

“We’re in Kansas City and things are looking pretty bleak outside,” Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy explained at the start of the livestream. “There are storms rolling through. As we say in our crew, there’s been cloud-to-ground lighting and that’s not good. It looks like there’s more storms heading our way so we thought we’d play some songs from our dressing room.”

Tweedy led his bandmates through “A Shot In The Arm” to open the 48-minute performance with Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker singing along. Next, guitarist Nels Cline was showcased on “Impossible Germany.” Wilco continued a double dose of songs from Sky Blue Sky with “Either Way.”

The informal set continued with classics “Theologians” and “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” before Wilco performed “Everyone Hides” from 2019’s Ode To Joy. “Ashes Of American Flags” came next and then the sextet went with “I’m Always In Love” to wrap the backstage set. “We’re really sorry Kansas City. We’ll come back,” Jeff said to end the livestream.
