Wilco & Corin Tucker Cover The Rolling Stones In Boston

Wilco honored The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died earlier in the day, by debuting a cover of “Honky Tonk Women” on Tuesday night in Boston. The band was joined by Corin Tucker from tourmates Sleater-Kinney for the performance of The Rolling Stones classic at Leader Bank Pavilion.

Jeff Tweedy and company treated fans to a 17-song main set filled with staples from setlists on their current tour last night. Wilco’s set featured four tunes a piece from both 2004’s A Ghost Is Born and 2001’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. The main set also included performances of “Everyone Hides” and “Love Is Everywhere (Beware)” off the group’s latest LP, Ode To Joy.

When Wilco returned for the encore they were augmented by Corin Tucker. The Sleater-Kinney co-founder provided harmony vocals on a “Honky Tonk Women” fronted by Tweedy. Multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone played cowbell at the start of the cover before transitioning to guitar. Additionally, Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche paid tribute to Watts by taping a sign that read “Charlie Is My Darling” to the front of his bass drum.

Wilco followed “Honky Tonk Women” with the tour’s fourth “The Late Greats.” The sextet then closed out the night with “California Stars.”
