132

Perpetual Groove has revealed plans for a new EP, C’mon. Covers? Set to arrive across streaming platforms on September 17th, the four-track offering predates an East Coast fall tour set to begin on September 23rd in Columbia, SC. The band has also announced the return of its Amberland festival for May 27th–29th, 2022.

PGroove’s first studio offering since its 2019 self-titled LP will feature four covers from a wide array of artists. The EP hosts the Savannah, GA-born, Athens, GA-based quartet’s takes on Peter Gabriel‘s “Digging In The Dirt”, The Cars‘ “Drive”, The Go-Go’s‘ “Our Lips Are Sealed”, and finally Johnny Cash‘s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”.

“Digging In The Dirt” and “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” have been in the band’s live rotation for years, while the tracks from The Cars and The Go-Go’s present new outings for the trance arena rock ensemble. Along with Wednesday’s announcement of C’mon. Covers?, Perpetual Groove has shared its take on “Digging In The Dirt”. The EP was recorded at the famous Chase Park Transduction used by fellow products of the Athens music scene R.E.M. and Drive-By Truckers and was produced by Jason Kingsland (Band of Horses, Washed Out).

In addition to over two-dozen shows throughout the East Coast and creeping briefly into the Midwest, Perpetual Groove will perform two nights in Denver, CO at Ophelia’s on November 5th and 6th. The band will also play a two-night New Year’s Eve run at the Georgia Theatre in their home of Athens. Drummer Albert Suttle, who joined the group in 2001 four years after it was founded, has announced his departure following the NYE show. Darren Stanley (Jimmy Herring, Col. Bruce Hampton) will replace him on the kit and is also heard throughout C’mon. Covers?

Perpetual Groove has also announced the return of its multi-day festival, Amberland. Coming 10 years after the most recent gathering in 2012, Amberland 2022 will once again take place over Memorial Day weekend but in a new location at Woodlands Nature Reserve in Charleston, SC. PGroove is the only band on the bill, performing three sets each day, including a Friday night pre-party dubbed “PGroove n’ Friends”.

“We’ve waited a long time to bring back Amberland because we wanted to do it right,” the band said in a statement. “We’re excited it will take place in the Low Country at this amazing location and are looking forward to it going back to all PGroove. It turns the festival into our own musical playground for the weekend.”
