Perpetual Groove Announces ‘C’mon. Covers?’ EP

141

Georgia-based jam quartet Perpetual Groove will put out an EP featuring four covers entitled C’mon. Covers? on digital services next Friday, September 17. The collection includes the band’s take on the Peter Gabriel classic “Digging In The Dirt,” released today in advance of the set.

C’mon. Covers? features the PGroove lineup of guitarist/vocalist Brock Butler, bassist Adam Perry, drummer Darren Stanley and keyboardist Matthew McDonald. The quartet recorded the collection at Chase Park Transduction in Athens with producer Jason Kingsland. Songs by The Cars, The Go-Go’s and Johnny Cash were interpreted by Perpetual Groove for the EP in addition to “Digging In The Dirt.”

Longtime drummer Albert Suttle recently announced his departure from the band. Albert will be behind the kit for most dates on Perpetual Groove’s upcoming fall tour. Both Suttle and Stanley, his replacement, will share drumming duties at the band’s two-night New Year’s Run at Athens’ Georgia Theatre on December 30 and 31.

Perpetual Groove also announced the return of their Amberland festival after a 10-year hiatus. Amberland 2022 will be held at Woodlands Nature Reserve in Charleston, South Carolina over Memorial Day Weekend. The quartet will perform three sets each day as the event’s sole musical act and will also present a “PGroove n’ Friends” Friday night pre-party. Early bird tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite.

Peter Gabriel originally released “Digging In The Dirt” on his 1992 studio album Us. The song has long been a staple of Perpetual Groove’s live repertoire. Stream the version from C’mon. Covers? below:
