Sturgill Simpson Cancels Outlaw Music Festival & Farm Aid 2021 Performances

107

Sturgill Simpson canceled his remaining Outlaw Music Festival and Farm Aid 2021 appearances due to vocal issues. The singer-songwriter has not been able to perform for several days.

Simpson was a late scratch from the Outlaw Music Festival stop in Charlotte, North Carolina last Sunday (September 19). The 2021 Album Of The Year Americana Award winner was also absent from last night’s Outlaw show in Alpharetta, Georgia that saw performances by headliner Willie Nelson, as well as Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Kathleen Edwards and Tyler Childers (filling-in for Simpson).

“Lost my voice completely,” Simpson wrote. “Been four days still no better. Hoping just viral laryngitis or inhaling treated wood from [a] backstage campfire at Merlefest or something equally stupid and not actual injury to vocal cords for playing too many shows in a row after not singing much for over 18 months.”

“Sorry if I let you down,” Simpson added. “Hate letting people down. Grateful to you for letting me play the music in my heart.”

Tomorrow’s Outlaw Fest concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland will see performances by Nelson, Childers, Edwards, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats and Gov’t Mule. Nelson, Childers and Rateliff are also part of the Farm Aid 2021 lineup, along with Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Margo Price, Bettye LaVette, Jamey Johnson, Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real, Allison Russell and more.

Simpson is currently scheduled to start a five-show residency at New York City’s Webster Hall on Tuesday, September 28. Read Simpson’s message regarding the canceled performances below:
