Legendary hip-hop group the Fugees recently announced a reunion tour, marking their first tour in 15 years and coinciding with the 25th anniversary of their landmark album The Score, which arrived on February 13, 1996. The group led by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel performed a concert earlier this week in New York City and will officially start the Diaspora Calling Tour in Chicago on November 2.

Seven months after releasing the influential The Score, the Fugees performed at the SWF3 New Pop Festival in Rastatt, Germany on September 21, 1996. The Fugees festival slot is the focus of this week’s Sunday Cinema.

Wyclef kicks off the appearance with a bit of beatboxing before picking up his guitar to lead the band through a cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry.” Hill and Pras then take the stage ahead of The Score’s “Fu-Gee-La.” Clef pours a bottle of water over his head and gets the crowd moving on the Fugees classic before heading over to the electric piano to back Hill on one of her signature songs, a cover of Lori Lieberman’s “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” which appears on The Score as “Killing Me Softly.”

The Fugees then welcomed fellow hip-hop great Nas for his “If I Ruled The World (Imagine That).” Hill is featured on the studio cut of the song off Nas’ 1996 album, It Was Written. The classic “Ready Or Not” came next before Fugees bookended the set with another Marley tune, “I Shot The Sheriff.”
