Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio recorded an updated rig rundown video at the band’s recent Summer Tour 2021 stop at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The footage originally premiered during set break as part of this weekend’s livestreams from the tour’s three-show finale at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado.

Anastasio’s last rig rundown video was recorded in 2012. The updated edition begins with discussion of his latest Paul Languedoc-built guitar (“Koa 4”). The guitarist then spends 25 minutes meticulously covering each aspect of his amplifiers, effects pedals and other components that come together to provide his array of sounds. Among the effect pedals in Trey’s setup is a special Mutron that was given to him by a member of the community.

Trey shows off how he creates loops in songs like “Gotta Jibboo,” uses a loud tube screamer to hold a note in “Divided Sky,” demonstrates the sound of his “Jedi pedal,” and goes through how he conjured a new effect that he first utilized during the 47-minute “Soul Planet” the band played the night before he recorded the rundown. Many other elements in Anastasio’s guitar rig are explored over the course of the half-hour video, all the way down to the type of cables he prefers.
