Singer-songwriter/guitarist Jake Xerxes Fussell will release a new studio album, Good And Green Again, through Paradise of Bachelors on January 21, 2022. Fussell, who kicks off a U.S. tour focusing on the Northeast the same day, previewed the LP by dropping lead single and opening track “Love Farewell,” which includes backing vocals from Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.
James Elkington (Jeff Tweedy, Michael Chapman, Steve Gunn) produced Jake’s fourth album and follow-up to 2019’s Out Of Sight. Fussell and Elkington (piano, organ, dobro, mandola, vibraphone and guitars) are joined on Good And Green Again by bassist Casey Toll, Libby Rodenbough on violin and viola, drummer and percussionist Joe Westerlund, Anna Jacobson on french horn and trumpet and pedal steel guitarist Nathan Golub. Additional vocals came from Bonnie “Prince” Billy, while Joseph Decosimo contributed fiddle to tracks “What Did The Hen Duck Say To The Drake?” & “In Florida.”
Good And Green Again was recorded at Durham, North Carolina’s Overdub Lane facility by Jason Richmond, who also handled the mix. “Fussell not only ventures beyond his established mastery of songcatching and songmaking into songwriting, but likewise navigates fresh sonic and compositional landscapes, going green with lusher, more atmospheric and ambitious arrangements,” as per press materials heralding the album’s upcoming release. “The result is his most conceptually focused, breathtakingly rendered, and enigmatically poignant record to date.”

Jake Xerxes Fussell starts his winter tour at The Nightlight in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on January 21, 2022. It’s then off to Richmond, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Boston as January continues. Fussell will cap the run with stops in Keene, New Hampshire on January 28 and Saratoga Springs, New York on January 29. Tickets went on sale today.
