moe. Debuts ‘Pink Houses’ Cover In Chicago

68

moe. concluded their three-night stand at Thalia Hall in Chicago on Saturday. The quintet continued their run of pink-themed song debuts with John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses” to kick off the encore.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Mellencamp classic — appearing on the heartland rocker’s 1983 album Uh Huh — comes as part of moe.’s role as official ambassadors in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign. The band has previously covered “The Pink Panther Theme,” Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac.”

Before getting into the show proper, moe. presided over a Billy Goat Package VIP soundcheck set which saw guitarist Al Schnier detailing the format and also fielding questions amongst some tunes ahead of the concert. moe. got the show underway with “Annihilation Blues.” A sequence of “Mar-DeMa” and “CalifornIA” capped off with an expansive “Lazarus” at over 22 minutes followed ahead of a standalone “Rise.” A pairing of the classics “Faker” and “Bring It Back Home” would bring the first frame to a close.

The five-song second set began with “LL3” head of two substantial outings on “Bring You Down” at just over 20 minutes and a characteristically well-jammed “meat,” which clocked in at over 30 minutes. “The Road” then encompassed another 20-minute excursion on “head” to close out the second set.

moe. returned to the stage for the two-song encore beginning with the debut of “Pink Houses.” Bassist Rob Derhak led the band through the classic rock staple before moe. closed out the evening and their three-night run in Chicago with “Spine Of A Dog.”
