Pearl Jam Plays New Songs At Ohana Encore

Pearl Jam debuted songs off their 2020 album Gigaton at the Ohana Encore, a slightly smaller edition of last week’s Ohana Festival, in Dana Point, California on Friday. The renowned rockers unveiled the tunes live during their headlining performance on Doheny State Beach.

PJ got things underway off with “Low Light” off 1998’s Yield. The classic “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town” came in the second slot. Gigaton’s “Dance Of The Clairvoyants,” — which PJ debuted at their Sea Hear Now festival slot, followed. The new cut “Never Destination,” the staple “Do The Evolution” and Riot Act’s “I Am Mine” followed.

The first debut of the evening came in the form of Gigaton’s “Buckle Up.” The classic “Even Flow” popped up next before another freshly debuted track, “Seven O’Clock.” “Nothingman,” played for the first time since 2018, came next followed by “State Of Love And Trust.” PJ then unveiled Gigaton opening track, “Who Ever Said.”

Pearl Jam then dusted off “Sweet Lew” for the first time since 2010, as per Livefootsteps.org. Bassist Jeff Ament took the mic and center stage to sing the song in a rare vocal performance. He introduced the song as his “love letter to the great Kareem Abudul-Jabbar.” Jeff stayed center stage to helm the tune as Vedder dribbled a basketball around. Next came the classic “Better Man” ahead of Patti Smith’s anthem “People Have The Power.” The Vs. cut “Rearviewmirror” would close out the set.

The PJ debut of Gigaton closing track, “River Cross,” kicked off the six-song encore. While the performance marked the first play by Pearl Jam, frontman Eddie Vedder has played the song solo previously. Classics “Garden,” “Why Go” and “Alive” followed ahead of a cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.” “Yellow Ledbetter” would bring the evening to a close.
