The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will honor the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) during its 2021 ceremony at Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland, OH on October 30th.
Organizers for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will honor NIVA and its 2,000-plus members for their tireless work regarding pandemic assistance for independent music venues across the country. Forming shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered music venues across the U.S. and world, NIVA spent months raising awareness for the “Save Our Stages” act, which passed Congress in December 2020. During this time, the association also formed its own non-profit to fundraise for venue owners and continue raising awareness about this crucial issue. Then, after months of roadblocks and issues with actually dispersing funds, NIVA helped to secure the inclusion of the renamed Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program into the $900 billion COVID relief package. This secured over $16 billion in aid to struggling music venues.

Following this April victory, NIVA then raised over $200,000 for these very same independent venues with two NFT auctions, providing even more funding for its central goal of saving our stages.
“We are grateful for your hard work as NIVA leaders over the last year to keep live music alive,” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame president/CEO Greg Harris wrote in a letter to NIVA members, according to Variety. “Independent venues are vital to rock & roll. Every band in the Rock Hall first took the stage in a local club, bar or theater. Inside local independent venues we experience some of the greatest moments of our lives.”
The letter continued, “The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is here to support our Inductees and our Museum, and to champion live music through programs like our summer concert series, our artist in residence program, our Induction Week, and much more. This week we want to celebrate all of you, our venue friends, for making it through a dark time. We are banking on a brighter future — so let’s raise a toast to rock & roll and live music together on October 30th!”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will air on Saturday, November 20th at 8:00 p.m. ET via HBO. Special guests will include Paul McCartney, who will induct Foo Fighters, as well as Taylor Swift, who will induct Carole King. Additional inductees will include Tina Turner, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, and Todd Rundgren, alongside musical performances from Christina Aguilera, Mickey Guyton, H.E.R., and Bryan Adams.
