St. Paul & The Broken Bones Announce New Album ‘The Alien Coast’ & Share Single

137

St. Paul and The Broken Bones will release a new studio album entitled The Alien Coast via ATO Records on January 28. The Alabama-based octet previewed the 11-track LP by sharing lead single “The Last Dance” and an accompanying video as well as the previously teased track “3000 AD Mass.”

Matt Ross-Spang produced The Alien Coast which is the group’s first album recorded in their hometown of Birmingham. The situation gave members of St. Paul & The Broken Bones plenty of time to try out and utilize various synths and samples. Additionally, Birmingham’s own hip-hop emcee Randall Turner collaborated with SPATBB on The Alien Coast.

“The title actually came from reading about the history of the Gulf of Mexico, which is home for us,” frontman Paul Janeway explained of naming the LP The Alien Coast. “When the settlers — or invaders, really — first came to the Gulf Coast they couldn’t figure out what it was, and started referring to it as the Alien Coast. That term really stuck with me, partly because it feels almost apocalyptic.”

St. Paul & The Broken Bones tapped Machete Bang Bang (Coldplay, Jeff Goldblum, Evan Rachel Wood) to direct the video for “The Last Dance.” The clip primarily features dancer Liv Mai (Euphoria, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend). “The juxtaposition of dancing while facing certain doom is what ‘Last Dance’ is all about,” added Janeway. “Like dancing through a Mad Max scene. So naturally the video had to be a dance video.”
