The JamBase Podcast: SOJA’s Jacob Hemphill
Miller called in from his home in Humboldt County California shortly before the October 8 release of The Dharma Wheel. He described the process of recording the six-song LP, which was done in spurts between tours and even while on tour, sometimes entering the studio mere hours after walking off stage from a concert the night before. Miller talked about road-testing some of the songs on The Dharma Wheel, explaining how they have evolved over time.
The bandleader also shared his experiences working with keyboardist Adam MacDougall (Circles Around The Sun, Chris Robinson Brotherhood) who appears on a few of the album’s songs. And Miller detailed his incredible experience of bringing in renowned guest violinist Scarlet Rivera, whose many credits include Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue.
The interview touched on a variety of other topics, such as constructing the record’s epic 16-minute title track, touring during the COVID-19 pandemic, incorporating new members of the band and much more.
