The Rolling Stones Debut ‘Troubles A’ Comin’ Cover In Charlotte

296

The Rolling Stones presented the first public performance of The Chi-Lites cover “Troubles A’ Comin” during their Thursday concert at Bank Of America Stadium in Charlotte. Yesterday, the group dropped the previously unreleased studio version from their upcoming Tattoo You 40th anniversary reissues.

While last night marked the official live “Troubles A’ Comin” premiere and first to feature the full ensemble, The Rolling Stones did play The Chi-Lites cover at a private concert hosted by Robert Kraft in a tent on the field at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on September 20. “Troubles A’ Comin” was performed on Thursday after an opening run featuring “Street Fighting Man,” “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” “Tumbling Dice” and “19th Nervous Breakdown.”

Both “Let’s Spend The Night Together” and “Troubles A’Comin” didn’t make the setlist on opening night in St. Louis this past Sunday, September 26. The same holds true for the “Let It Bleed” that followed, which was chosen as the evening’s fan-requested song. “Let’s Spend The Night Together” and “Let It Bleed” were each last played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on August 18, 2019.

The rest of last night’s show featured the same setlist as St. Louis with one exception. Guitarist Keith Richards fronted “Happy” and “Slipping Away” during his turn in the spotlight on Thursday. “Before They Make Me Run” was played on opening night instead of “Happy.” The Rolling Stones went on to close with concert with one beloved classic after another including “Miss You,” “Paint It Black,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and an encore featuring “Gimme Shelter” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Once again, the evening began with a video tribute to Charlie Watts with frontman Mick Jagger dedicating the show to the longtime Rolling Stones drummer, who died in August.
